Lepchajagat-Hills

Lepchajagat is a tiny little hamlet, situated at an altitude of 6,956 ft and comes en route Mirik, Siliguri towards Darjeeling (19 kms) and is an ideal destination for those looking for some quiet time away from the hustle of city life.

It was originally inhabited by the Lepcha tribe till the British brought it into the limelight during the early 19th century.

While Mirik, is famous for tea gardens, Lepchaghat has stunning trekking routes to choose from and picnic spots for spending some wonderful moments with family.

With plenty of waterfalls and hilly terrain, Lepchajagat offers magnificent views of Kanchenjunga and mist laden mountains, making it a perfect monsoon destination to relax and unwind. Watching the sunset and sunrise from the Tiger hills, is an experience in itself. To get a clearer view of Kanchenjunga, you can move to the Balsan Valley, which is 2.5 km away from the Lepchajagat Guest House. A kilometre-long trek route will take you to a place called Hawa Ghar that commands a even clearer view of the queen.

Lepchajagat is a paradise for nature lovers, photographers and trekking addicts. And yes due to its thick forested zones, the place is also known to have a number of sightings for leopards, civet cats and wild bears, even during the daytime.

You could also travel to Jorepokhri (10 kms from Lepchajagat) from where the Nepal border is just 12 Kms!  Jorpokhri means ‘Lakes’ so the place has few lakes making the area look scenic. It is located 16 kms from Darj and 85 Kms from Siliguri.

Tea-Estate-kurseong
Kurseong is also famous for its paranormal activities seen and felt especially at Dow Hill and attracts lot for interest among tourists all over the world. 2. Kalimpong:
is a picturesque hill station nestled between the Delo & the Durpindara Mountains.

And yes, while you are in Kalimpong don’t forget to buy the rich & delicious milk lollipops (25/- for a packet) from the famous Lark’s Provision’s store and do pick some Churrpi, a tangy and chewy cheese made from Yak’s milk.

What to See: Dr. Graham’s Home, Durpindara view point, Flowers Nurseries, Kali Tample, Kalimpong Art & Crafts Centre. You may also visit Pedong (25 kms from kalimpong via Algarah). Pedong is the trade centre of the historical silk route and the Bhutanese Pedong Monastery (1837) and Bhutanese Fort Damsung (just a 2 kms trek) is a must visit. 3. Sandakphu: is the best trekking trail in this state and offers a wonderful contrast of Everest and Kanchanjangha.
